The activities of the Guidance Centre are aimed at all citizens seeking advice on their educational and professional guidance in order to identify their abilities, skills and interests, to make informed decisions about their choice of studies and training as well as their career plans.

Skills audit

The skills audit allows you to take stock of yourself in order to get to know yourself better and identify your skills, interests and ambitions. This analysis will help you to define a professional project, to plan a career change or a training project. Training providers that are members of lifelong-learning.lu, can offer expert help in this regard and be contacted. Assessment tests are also a vailable online to help you get an initial understanding of your personal profile.

Specific training schemes for adults

A number of arrangements specifically for adults are offered in the Grand Duchy, in order to develop their skills.

Personalised learning workshops (L4S) are targeted at adults who want to improve their general knowledge and skills in languages and mathematics.

Basic education is for adults who want to improve their skills in arithmetic, reading and writing in French or in German, or acquire basic digital skills.

Education for people with special needs involves the organisation of special classes for the blind or visually impaired and for the deaf or hard of hearing.

The reception and integration contract (contrat d’accueil et d’intégration - CAI) is a voluntary integration programme for non-Luxembourgish residents to facilitate their integration and active participation in life in the Grand Duchy.

Support measures for integrating the labour market

Various measures to support young people are offered in Luxembourg so that they can integrate the labour market and develop their skills.

The National School for Adults (École nationale pour adultes - ENAD) is offering a new opportunity to succeed in the school system to all young people and adults between 16 and 30 years old who have dropped out of school or who want to obtain a diploma.

The employment initiation contract (contrat d’initiation à l’emploi - CIE) provides a first practical experience for young job seekers under 30 years of age.

The employment support contract (contrat d’appui-emploi - CAE) enables both qualified or unqualified young job seekers under 30 years of age to receive practical and theoretical training. The CAE is only for public-sector employers.

Guidance and professional initiation classes (cours d’orientation et d’initiation professionnelles - COIP) enable young people to build a realistic career plan, and to prepare for working life or to move towards vocational training.

The Fit fir d'Léier (F4L) training is designed for young people between 18 and 24 years old to help them find an apprenticeship position in a trade that suits them.

Initiatives for reintegrating the labour market

There are various initiatives in the Grand Duchy regarding vocational reintegration.

Initiation and development training in relation to sectors where jobs are available or tailored to personal needs are offered to job seekers registered with the ADEM during their period of unemployment, either free of charge or at a concessionary rate.

The employment reintegration contract (contrat de réinsertion-emploi - CRE), which alternates practical and theoretical training, allows employers to pass on their experience and give older job seekers and employees with a disability or reduced working capacity a real prospect of employment.

The Future Skills Initiative enables job seekers selected by the ADEM to benefit from training aimed at strengthening and developing their cross-disciplinary skills and from a practical work placement in order to remain active during the period of unemployment.

Professional reintegration initiatives are offered by associations, active in training and guidance. Their initiatives may be focused on personalised support, training, counselling or introduction to green jobs in order to help job seekers to develop their skills.

The European Commission has set up job mobility programmes to help people find work all over Europe.
